Geraldine Franklin

Geraldine Franklin’s work explores composition through the dynamic use of colour. Her subject

matter ranges from layering of abstract shapes to the portrayal of everyday objects, often depicted

in boldly coloured silhouettes, playing with positive and negative shape. There is a strong sense of

freedom and playfulness in her work with the flowing and curved lines that intertwine with one

another. Geraldine’s work focuses on the process and enjoyment of art making as a starting point,

allowing spontaneity to take over, conception does not always have to come before execution. Her

passion as an Artist is to make the unknown known, exploring what colour, shape and form can do

together.

Geraldine works on several pieces at the same time which allows space to reflect about each

composition and either deciding the piece is complete or continuing to work on it. She will then add

another layer or scratch into the surface with the end of a paint brush to reveal colours of paint

beneath.

Alongside creating her own artwork, Geraldine has worked as an art teacher and art

therapist with people of all ages. She is passionate about encouraging confidence in people

who want to bring out their creativity, and has brought this skill to work with people in a

variety of settings from nursery to secondary schools, adult education centres, a prison,

hospitals, a hospice, day centres, youth projects, and workshops.

Geraldine has exhibited in London, Scotland, Bristol and the South coast. She has organised

both solo and joint exhibitions and currently is curating a gallery space in Deptford, South

East London.
